The new mobile phone, made by the Hampshire-based company Vertu, is not scheduled to include any jewels or precious metals, but is made from a mixture of stainless steel, leather, ceramic and comes with a scratch-free sapphire glass panel.
To put this new mobile telephone in context, the most people in the UK have to work for over two months in order to bring home the kind of money that this phone costs out of the box. The amusing fact about this mobile is that it does not come with any telephone calls, sms messages or even data minutes included!
Yes the mobile phone is made from a number of top end materials, but that luckily is only half the story. And no its not just because it is handmade by skilled professionals in the heart of Hampshire; unlike my Finnish mobile phone was.
Key to the cost of the handset is the two services that come included with the handset.
The primary service is the Vertu Concierge service, which can be accessed by pressing a button that is embedded in all Vertu mobiles. The service automatically puts the users in touch with a team who can sort out anything from flights, through to getting someone round to sort out your drains.
A completely new service for Vertu customers is the other feature - The City Brief. When a customer arrives in a new country the handset, using the built in positioning system, will automatically change the handset to the local timezone and let the user know about the best new restaurants, theatre productions, music concerts and events happening in and around that city during that week. Businessmen will also be informed of the local business etiquette.
