Intelius, a company that provides consumers and businesses information services for decision-making processes, has discontinued its phone directory service. In line with expanding their people search service, the firm launched in 2007 an enhanced directory that included phone numbers, making the directory a first of its kind.
Liz Murray, Intelius‘ Communications Manager, said that the firm strives to lead in innovative technology, but the discontinuation was done in response to customer feedback. There was a similar product introduced to the market a couple of years back. However, the product was way ahead of its time. Further, according to the communications manager, they found out that the product is still ahead of its time and the market is still not ready for it.
The company still has kept their cell phone caller ID service though. In line with the firm’s commitment to protect their consumers, they have offered a caller ID service that identifies unrecognized numbers. Intellius lets customers write an unregistered number to their website. Customers will then receive information connected with that phone number. This service will provide protection from harassing calls, pranks, and hang-ups to name some.
With more people using cellular phones, concerns like telemarketers, wrong numbers, high phone bills and harassing calls have also increased. Murray added that the caller ID service is an extension to their protection and information services for customers’ family and friends. She said that this kind of technology is helpful in preventing the creation of harassers, pranksters and predators. Unknown numbers can be checked and consumers can be informed about peole trying to reach them and their children.
