Naveen Jain is the founder of critically acclaimed info-commerce firm Intelius, Inc. The company engages in services like searching for people, verifying people’s identities, checking them for any criminal history, screening job applicants, and protecting customers from identity scams. Intelius, Inc. does all these by using a large database of public records culled from all over and beyond the state of Washington (where the company is based). So far over seven million subscribers have purportedly used Intelius since its founding in 2003. Its website also receives a substantial number of hits every day; comScore ranks Intelius.com one of 100 highly visited websites. Intelius’ founder used to work at Microsoft Corporation as part of the team that launched the company’s flagship online service, The Microsoft Network. Naveen Jain worked at the company from June 1989 through March 1996. Right after quitting Microsoft, Naveen Jain created the web content-providing startup called InfoSpace. Once, InfoSpace made affiliates out of large companies, like Lycos, ABC, Disney, CBS, US WEST, OnHealth, and NBC’s Snap. As a good part of InfoSpace’s content involved telephone directories, Naveen Jain became one of 1997’s “most influential people in Yellow Pages” according to Directory World. In one 1997 issue, Red Herring declared Jain as a “Top 20 Entrepreneur” in America. Information Week predicted he was one of those who would “change the Net.” Jain also secured a nomination for the Emerging Entrepreneur award of Ernst & Young in 1998. He repeated this feat for Intelius in 2006, landing in the finals for the Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Based mostly in Washington, Naveen Jain is an emigrant from India. He came to the US in 1982 due to a business exchange program. He holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the Francis Xavier Labour Relations Institute - School of Management in Jamshedpur, and a degree in engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Roorkee.
